Two days after Christmas in 1825, and one day before her 43rd birthday, Polly (Corbet) Emery received from Eldad Corbet, her father, a family Bible. The dates begin with Polly’s grandparents, Daniel and Mary Corbet of Mendon, Massachusetts, so it is thought that Eldad had already begun making entries in this family record. The four-generation account is the sort of genealogy treasure prized by family researchers.
Corbet Family Pedigree
Daniel Corbet (1720-1761) and Mary Holbrook (1723-1809) were married in 1741 at Bellingham, MA. He was a son of Daniel Corbett (1693-1753) and his wife, the former Sarah Jones (1694-1776), a daughter of John and Sarah (Lobdell) Jones with ancestry in the North, Whitman, Reed, Bosworth and Bellamy families.
The Daniel Corbet born in 1693 at Mendon, MA, was a son of Robert Corbet (1640-1695) and the former Priscilla Rockwood (1664-1691). Robert was born at Moreton Corbet in Shropshire, England, and died at Woodstock, CT. Many of the ancestral lines in the Corbet, Bromley, Fortescue, Lovell, Ford, Eames and Pierce families have been traced for several generations in England. The ancient Fortescue lineage, traced back to 1155, is of special interest because of the marriages which add to this family tree the historically significant Boleyn, Chaucer, Plantagenet and Windsor lines.
